About
Futuro Ciencia is a free resource for learning to make greeting cards by hand. Every guide on the site is written for people who have never scored a sheet of cardstock, or who tried once, ended up with a crooked fold and glue on the front, and went back to buying cards.
The name comes from the domain the site lives on. The subject is paper craft: cardstock, scissors, glue and a few simple shapes.
What you will find here
- Beginner guides that explain the fundamentals: which cardstock to buy, how to cut it straight, how to score and fold a card base, and how to layer panels evenly.
- Step-by-step card projects for birthdays, thank-yous, congratulations, anniversaries, the seasons and the winter holidays.
- Technique and idea guides on pop-up mechanisms, dimensional layers, homemade stamps, collage, layouts, color, envelopes, embellishments and finishing.
If you are new, the best place to begin is Card Making for Beginners, followed by the guides to cardstock, cutting and scoring and folding. The full list of guides is on the Tutorials page.
How the guides are written
Each tutorial lists what you need, gives one action per step, and points out the step where beginners most often go wrong. Sizes are given in inches with metric equivalents. Where a tool is optional, the guide says what to use instead, so no project depends on a particular brand or machine.
Original designs. The cards taught here are built from simple generic shapes such as hearts, balloons, flowers, leaves, stars and stripes. We do not reproduce commercial greeting-card designs, characters or other people’s artwork, and the guides do not ask you to.
Greetings. The words on a handmade card are yours. The designs leave space for a handwritten greeting, and the pictures on this site show the cards without any wording.
Illustrations. The images on this site are simplified drawings made to show shapes, layers and the order of steps. They are diagrams, not photographs of finished cards, and real paper will look different.
We do not publish invented reviews, ratings, testimonials or time estimates.
